What does it mean to become a sponsor?

Sponsorship is the most important role in the Emmaus community. God passes His love from person to person and as a sponsor you will underline that fact by passing on your Emmaus experience to another.

Your aim in sponsorship should not be to get all your friends to go or to fix everyone's problems, but to build up the Body of Christ. Emmaus' purpose is to bring renewal to Christians so that they will go home and bring renewal to their homes, churches, and communities.

Do you know someone who shows potential in Christian leadership? Do you know someone who yearns for answers to their questions and to find a deeper faith? Then that is who you should sponsor!

Anyone who has participated in the Walk to Emmaus (or other recognized Fourth Day Movements) may sponsor a Pilgrim. The only additional requirement is that you are confident you can fulfill all sponsorship responsibilities. For a complete list of those responsibilities, contact our registrar.

God passes His love from person to person and as a sponsor you will underline that fact by passing on your Emmaus experience to another.

Before sponsoring your pilgrim, please prayerfully read the Sponsor’s Agreement:

As a sponsor, I will do my best to fulfill the following responsibilities and will prayerfully uphold my pilgrim prior to, during, and following his/her Walk to Emmaus:

  • If the pilgrim is married, talk to his/her spouse to confirm his/her support of the pilgrim attending.

  • Bring my pilgrim to camp on Thursday evening for send-off, carry his/her luggage, and make his her bed.

  • Attend the Sponsor’s Hour following send-off (or send a proxy or written prayer for my pilgrim).

  • Collect and bring to the camp on Thursday evening 12 agape letters for my pilgrim.

  • Care for the needs of my pilgrim’s family over the weekend.

  • Attend Candlelight Saturday evening and Closing Sunday afternoon, transporting my pilgrim home afterwards.

  • Assist my pilgrim in getting into an Emmaus Fourth Day Reunion/Share Group (or starting one).

  • Assist my pilgrim in attending the Gatherings.

The fee for a pilgrim to attend the Walk to Emmaus is $115. A minimum deposit of $25 is required to hold the pilgrim’s place on the Walk. More information will be sent to you regarding how to pay that after you submit your nomination form.
